Job Purpose

Reporting to the Digital Delivery Lead, this is a multifaceted role that requires that successful candidate to work collaboratively to enhance the existing React Framework, while supporting a number of niche brands and mentoring an Offshore Development team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting edge technologies within a fast paced IT team who are passionate about designing and developing lean, quality and innovative web solutions for our customers.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong and recent experience in React, SASS, HTML and PHP, enjoy working as part of a collaborative team and be self-motivated.

Code and Peer review

  • Review other developers work and provide feedback to improve, align with guidelines and to ensure that it meets business requirements

  • Mentor junior and intermediate developers; provide assistance in architecting solutions to their problems
  • Present strategies, ideas, concepts and material to other developers/teams

Key Competencies

  • Demonstrate an ability to analyse tasks and break them down into key components and functionality
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of:
    • Render props
    • Higher order components
    • Hooks
    • Contexts (and the React context API)
  • Write unit tests for a set of complex react component/s (using Jest, preferably)
  • Manage package development through its entire lifecycle
  • Work with ESLint and Prettier code linters and create/update config for it
  • Compile code with either a Webpack and/ Rollup packaging pipeline
  • Construct a component that utilises data from an external source (e.g. has an ajax request)
  • Analyse package output to determine improvements to the bundling and inclusion of scripts within the package
  • Troubleshoot and identify the cause of a React bug
  • To use styled components, JSS or any other form of CSS in JS within the React world
  • Establish documentation that conveys clearly what the code/component/system is doing, why it is doing it, and the future roadmap
  • Handle complex state across multiple packages and technologies using tools like PubSub
  • Utilise code splitting and Webpack and/or Rollup packaging techniques to optimise bundle size and critical loading paths
  • Establish and document coding patterns and standards that should be adopted across the code base
  • Design schemas and data structures and how they should be implemented and used throughout the react application
  • Plan and design for multiple packages to be used together on a single page
  • Work with a large number of developers to build/construct functionality
  • Construct complex documentation using Storybook or similar UI Component library packages

Skills and Experience


  • 4+ years developing within web development
  • Strong understanding of React, its best practices, and usages
  • Experience working with Agile development practices
  • Experience writing code in a code-base that has strict code standards and principles
  • Experience working with packaging tools like Webpack
  • Experience working with transpiling tools like Babel
  • Strong experience in working with Node
  • Strong Experience in unit testing
  • Working with code reviewers to help improve code
  • Strong proactive communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively are critical
  • Ability to negotiate without being adversarial
  • Strong technical acumen to think critically and converse with technical architects and designers
  • Proven track record of mentoring and providing guidance to colleagues and peers
  • Perform duties independently under general, minimal supervision within specific assignments
  • Research, analyse and make recommendations on technical analysis and understanding
  • Write logical, comprehensive, concise documentation and correspondence
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing using language understandable to management and employees
  • Acquire subject matter expertise in the functions and activities
  • Use troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Utilise time management skills and multitasking capabilities
  • Develop and document business and processes, functions and procedures
  • Handle working in multiple and parallel projects

  • Experience with setting up and maintaining CI pipelines in Jenkins
  • Experience in Typescript
  • Experience in Lambda development
  • Experience in SSR methodologies
  • Experience with using Jest for unit tests
  • Experience with using Cypress for functional tests
  • Degree/relevant qualification
