The Travel Services department at StudentUniverse in Waltham, MA specializes in coordinating group travel for universities and colleges, sports teams, humanitarian groups, or any type of group over ten passengers traveling together. This stellar team is searching for an energetic, results-driven Team Leader to manage our successful and high performing group. Five of our account managers are in the top 10 of the Youth Consultants category of Flight Centre’s Global Handbook for May 2019.  As a matter of fact, two of our consultants are in the top three! 

 

As the Team Leader of sales, you have a genuine interest in mentoring staff, building client relationships, reviewing service quality, and of course managing the leads pipeline. Your can-do-attitude and enthusiasm paired with your strategic thinking will help grow our team and grow our business.

 

This description outlines the key role and focus for the Team Leader of Travel Services at StudentUniverse.  

 

The Nurture and Development Role

The most important role for a Team Leader in Travel Services is to nurture and develop team members in the areas of customer relations and best practices. The Team Leader should be comfortable:

  • Spending time developing staff professionally and personally by providing clear direction and setting individual goals for each team member
  • Delivering positive or constructive feedback to team members during one-on-ones or in team meetings
  • Implementing consistent KPI’s to measure progress and take appropriate actions to keep the team on course

 

Lead by Example

In 2019, our Travel Services team achieved over $17MUSD in TTV and our top three consultants combined made up over 50% of the team’s annual transfer. As Team Leader you must be among the top producers and demonstrate the importance of:

  • Time management, organization, and being responsible for all aspects of account management
  • Promoting a fun work environment while challenging yourself and others to break records
  • Creating initiatives, and celebrating milestones to keep the team motivated during busy seasons

 

Discipline

No one likes working in an undisciplined shop, team or business. Consistency is one of the keys to running this team as a well-oiled machine. The Team Leader is ultimately responsible for the performance of the team and must direct the group to:

  • Maintain accurate pipelines, budgets, targets, and deadlines
  • Practice good data habits that will impact reliable reporting and forecasting
  • Engage in clear communications with interdepartmental teams to resolve software issues or finance related problems

 
Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Operations and Business Development teams to align department goals
  • Report to management regularly on department KPIs and strategies to improve shortfalls and enhance productivity
  • Collaborate with Marketing to ensure generation of high-quality leads and build online presence for Groups department
  • Work with senior management to deliver annual department strategy and focus

What we hope you bring to the table:

  • A passion for travel and the desire to create travel solutions for educators
  • 2-5 years of corporate/leisure travel agency experience in a leadership role
  • GDS familiarity – Sabre skills are preferred but not required
  • CRM experience – Salesforce preferred
  • Professional and thoughtful written and oral communication skills
  • A customer service-oriented mentality - a natural relationship builder
  • Excellent client facing skills – clear and concise written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • A love for healthy competition while still understanding the importance of a team
