To be successful in this role you need to be passionate about operational excellence. Attention to detail is key, as is a sound understanding of financial accounting. You will be posting journals, preparing management reports, and responsible for processing monthly commissions for over 600 payees. By extension, you will also be responsible for improving the systems and processes supporting these activities through elimination, automation, and/or simplification.

While this role is heavily focused on processes and month end, ad-hoc analysis and bespoke reporting will still be required. Your inquisitive nature will help you not just with this, but by also identifying opportunities to improve the profitability of the business.

This is a challenging role. But it will be fun and importantly, the role will build upon your studies and existing experience to help you become a stronger management accountant. Performance Objectives

(1) Operational Excellence

Within the first three months, you will

  • Gain a solid understanding of all monthly tasks and processes and work towards meeting and exceeding deadline expectations for postings and reporting.
  • Ensure all processes are thoroughly documented
  • Review processes to identify and eliminate inaccuracy and completeness risks
  • Identify which processes could be eliminated / automated / streamlined

Within the first six months, you will

  • Develop and implement a plan to reduce number of monthly / weekly tasks, and the amount of effort they consume through elimination and/or automation
  • Improve the front-end user experience within the existing BI Platform (Sisense)

(2) Business Acumen and Profit Improvement

Within the first three months, you will

  • Develop a solid understanding of our business model, including income and cost drivers
  • Produce monthly/weekly estimates
  • Develop an understanding of the reporting you are producing
  • Develop a strong relationship and work closely with the Brand Management Accountants to understand the key drivers in the business.

Within the first six months, you will

  • Identify cost reduction initiatives
  • Assist annual budget / quarterly forecast
  • Improve on existing reporting (need call to action)
  • Identify a profit improvement initiative, develop a plan on how to implement it, sell it to relevant stakeholders, working with the rest of the Corporate Finance team implement the initiative and track the financial impact

(3) Financial Control

Within the first three months, you will

  • Become proficient in all Finance systems (Protas, SUN, Q&A, Oracle, Sisense etc)
  • Assist with any external/internal audit queries
  • Understand all company accounting policies
  • Address anything on the balance sheet that is not in standard

(4) Leadership

You will

  • Act as a leader at all times
  • Be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Be a strong verbal and written communicator
  • Take responsibility for your own successes and failures
  • Own your career development plan

Minimum requirements:

  • Can-do attitude
  • Team player
  • Attention to detail
  • 1 year of management accounting experience (subjective based accruals, audit support, budget/forecasting)
  • Part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or equivalent), with relevant degree
  • Tech-savvy; you will be comfortable working with multiple systems, and ideally have some experience with data modelling and BI tools
