We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Travel Writer to join the Flight Centre content team for a fixed contract (approximately 12 months) to cover maternity leave. At the forefront of your responsibilities will be to produce engaging content for Flight Centre’s editorial channels, with primary focus on our Travel Blog and Destination Guide content, using a calendar to work to that you'll keep up with. Day to day, you will commission and manage external writers, as well as creating copy yourself reflecting Flight Centre’s tone of voice, taking care to also ensure all content generated outside the content team abides accordingly. Content will vary from daily needs, to larger projects and campaigns. You will also need to work flexibly to accommodate last minute copy requirements and projects when required. 

Main responsibilities

  • Maintain Travel Blog content and create a brief for writers
  • Write, commission and edit travel blog content
  • Develop and maintain a strong contact list of bloggers and travel writers
  • Deliver required content in time for deadlines
  • Manage content calendar
  • Create inspirational copy about Flight Centre’s full holiday range for the website, brochures and customer magazine
  • Work with the rest of the team to ensure the timely delivery of larger content projects
  • Work with the documentation team to provide destination guides for customer itineraries
  • Create content for our social media channels and monitor channels during holiday cover
  • Intermediate knowledge of SEO principles and ability to work with the digital performance team to produce entertaining and informative search engine optimised copy
  • Source appropriate images for content based on brand requirements/story subject
  • Apply an appropriate knowledge of copyright law
  • Monitor and report regularly on content results
  • Allocation of budget as required

What we're looking for

  • A razor-sharp editorial eye and great attention to detail
  • Ability to create inspiring and unique copy
  • Ability to identify the purpose of a page and write accordingly
  • A keen eye for design, understanding the importance of eye-catching visuals have in delivering effect web content
  • Ability to identify brand requirements and create quality content accordingly
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the content team, the wider marketing department and external suppliers
  • Confidence to offer constructive and specific feedback to writers
  • Experience of working on large scale projects and managing content deadlines
  • Ability to identify deadline issues and anticipate project roadblocks
  • Experience using CMS, Drupal (preferred)
  • Experience of Photoshop and InDesign (preferred)
  • Understanding of Google Analytics for website performance tracking and business reporting
  • Experience of applying a data-driven approach to content creation
